Low impact environmentally sustainable living
This book One Planet Lifeand Bill Mollisons Permaculture Design Manual are the main two books we are utilising to achieve our objectives.
Low impact strategies utilised:
-
Off grid solar power: 10,000 watts of solar panels, 8,000 watt inverter, 32 kwh of battery storage. We utilise induction hot plates for much of our cooking.
-
Construction of thirteen permaculture swayles around the house where we have planted a variety of fruit trees, herbs and vegetables to achieve self sufficiency.
-
We are in the process of building an underground cellar to utilise for storage of root vegetables, wine, fruit, and preserves. This will double as a fire shelter.
-
158,000 litres of rain water storage.
-
Our dam holds just under 1 million litres of water. Water is pumped to tanks on the hill via a solar submersible pump and is then gravity fed back to utilise for food production and domestic use.
-
Hugelkulture Garden beds and mounds for fruit trees on other parts of the property.
